Karen had her monthly pre-natal visit this morning for what is supposed to be her 16 week checkup. She is actually about 18 weeks along, but we didn't get the first appointment at exactly 8 weeks, so everything is shifted. No big deal :)
Anyway, this was the first of many quick appointments I'm sure. We went in, she was weighed and had her blood pressure checked, the Dr. came in to chat with us, asked if we had questions, found the heart beat and sent us on our merry way. All total, about 20 mins. I was even at work on time this morning.. :)
All of her lab work from last time came back the way it should. All the negatives were negative and all the positives were positive. Just what we wanted to hear. The babies hear was pounding away at an astounding 154 bpm this time, down 2 from last time, but still well within the norm of 110-170 at this stage.
The midwife even said that the height of her uterus is where it should be for someone who is 17, maybe 18+ weeks along, and by our calculations and those given to us, Karen is right inbetween the July 2nd due date and how far along she thinks she is. But no matter when it is due, it will come when it wants and is ready. Just so it's healthy. And so far so good...
Yay!!! I was able to feel my first very distinct fetal movement last night! Karen had me feeling her stomach in the past couple of weeks, and I was able to feel something, which felt just like her digestive tract moving or something similar, but last night, she put my had on her stomach and not even a minute later I felt a very distinct fetal movement. She said it felt like the baby was rolling over. I'll believe her on that one, but I felt what seemed to be an appendage push out and then disappear.
Things are progressing along quite nicely. Karen has had it easy so far with morning sickness and the other unpleasentries associated with being pregnant. I have a feeling that her "problems" will come with the kid being active and not letting her sleep :)
Now I get to go shopping!!!! I have more maternity clothes then I do regular clothes. Thanks to Claire I had a start on clothes for work but I had to widen the selection a little bit at least. I think I'm set for a few months anyway. The woman behind the counter asked if I was 6 months or further and she was very shocked when I told her that I was only 4. I thought I was big but it's getting crazy now.
