first class

So we had our first birth class this evening. There are only 2 other couples in the class with us. I think it will be a very good learning experience for both of us. We have homework already but its not just for me this time.....Doug has his own things he has to do this week and we have to tell Rhonda how the other one does with their assignments.

ultrasound

I had an ultrasound today because when I was at the Doctor on 3/17 the CNM, George, thought that I was measuring bigger then he would have liked. At that time I was measuring at about 27 weeks which was about 2 1/2 weeks big. Today everything went very well today, it was amazing to see all the little parts.

We saw al lthe fingers and toes, spine, brain, heart, stomach and the legs. The kid was very cooperative with not letting us see what he or she is--I was glad that we didn't have to look away. The heart rate was at 137 which is lower than when we listened a couple of weeks ago and the technician estimates the weight to be at about 2 1/2 pounds. My date has not been changed because I am not measuring more than 2 weeks too big, the ultrasound says that i am at 27 weeks today which is only about 4 or 5 days off at this point--so July 2nd is still the target. That seems really far away but then next few months will go fast since we haven't really done any work on the nursrey yet. We are both jsut so happy that everything is going well.

Let the countdown begin!

It's official. According to timeanddate.com, there are now only 99 days left until the expected date of our childs delivery date! Yay! It's getting really close and I'm starting to get excited!

I've had a countdown on my whiteboard at work for the past 4 months or so, and I've kept it up to date every day. It's become part of my morning routine along with reading my online comics and calendar comics. Hope I have a whiteboard at my new job.

Bradley Method Classes to Begin

Upon the recomendation of John and Claire, Karen and I have decided to take child birth classes centered around the Bradley Method. What attracts us to this method over the typical Lamaze classes, is that they seem to center on education, and the "what to expect" aspect, rather than just the breathing and relaxing through labor. (At least from what I understand about Lamaze). I have also heard that the Bradley Method is very much centered around the parents as a couple, and involves the father, like I feel he should be. I have attended every single one of Karen's Dr. Appointments to date, and enjoy being involved in the whole process. Heck, I'd even carry the baby for a while if I could :).

We are going to attend classes with the same teacher that John and Claire used, just a few miles up the road from our house in fact. Classes start on Monday, March 29th, and run for a total of 12 sessions, ending either June 7 or 14, depending on what we decide to do about Memorial Day. When I talked to Rhonda, she informed me that we would be taking the class with one other couple, but that number could grow between now and then.

I'm excited to be nearing the end and seeing what all of this interesting stuff will produce. Only 104 days left until her due date on July 2. (Not that I'm counting).

25+ week appointment

I had yet another appointment today. It started with having to drink some glucose stuff--it tasted really bad but it was a small cup so down the hatch it went. Then we got to meet Geroge, he was really entertaining. He listented to the heart (140-150) which was slightly less than previous appointments. Then he suggested that we have another ultrasound because yet again I measured about 2 weeks ahead of schedule.

so we have an ultrasound scheduled for 3/29 and then we have my 30 week appointment on 4/13. That will be the last four weeks between and should be 2 weeks from then on.

Prelim Pics

Preliminary pictures of the nursery before we destroy it and make it a hospitable place for a newborn are up here. Plans at this time are to do the paint and border sometime within the next month or so, but we don't have a whole lot of time left.

I finally found it!!!

I went shopping with Megan at the Flower and Craft Warehouse yesterday and I found the fabric I have been looking for. I don't know that I would have thought to look there but I'm glad we did. As Doug posted we went to Baby Depot also yesterday and we registered for some things, we changed our minds on the pattern for the "big accessories". We have decided to go with Union as the pattern by Graco because it's cute and gender neutral. I must say that I am getting more and more excited.....

Registry

Karen and I went out to baby depot today to start our registry for our baby. We have found a crib and changing table/dresser that we like there, but it's not on our registry. We did, however, register for our stroller, high chair, pack and play, and random other items. If you would like to view it, take a look at their website and search for registry id: 04769716.

IT'S ALIVE!!!

I was laying up against Karen this morning with my back to her and I could actually feel the child kicking me (or punching me) in the back! It's only really been in the past few days or so that I've been able to fairly consistently feel movement, and it's exciting. Can't wait until this child comes out so I can play with Fern.
